The Location of the Church is beautiful and the people who have worked with the restoration are worthy of great appreciation. The Albanian Church has always considered Elisha, (Elisey) the Jewish Missionary to be its apostle. In the records of Moses Kalankatusky, a 7th century history writer, we find a very intriguing passage about the apostle Elisha and his ministry to Albania.
“Leaving Jerusalem Elisha went through Persia, this time not entering Armenia. Penetrating Albania he traveled through the region of Maskutam and started preaching in a region called Chola. Here he was teaching and preaching a large amount of people. Elisha left the region and arrived to Gis”(Which is believed to be the same place as modern Kish.) “In Gis, Elisha built a Church and received the Eucharist.” According to Moses Kalankatusky this became the center for the preaching of the gospel in this entire region. To literally quote him; ″At this place, was the Church of our eastern region founded. And it became the spiritual capital and the place of enlightenment for all the inhabitants of the east.”
