After all the rumors of the oil fountains and the reports of his brother’s success, Ludwig decided to go to Baku and see it all with his own eyes.

The circumstances were perfect for a man like Ludwig. Even if Roberts works with the refining of the crude oil was crucial. Ludwig saw longer and viewed an unlimited market. He realized that the whole market in Baku needed to be reformed and modernized. He returned to s:t Petersburg and together with his engineers he laid out a plan for the work in Baku. His research summarized in four categories. 1. Pipelines. 2. Pumps 3. Railroad transportation. 4. Storage.

Ludwig was a man of innovations. He was the first to draw pipelines in Baku, he designed and constructed the world’s first oil tanker, he built cisterns and railway depots. He built a villa city for his employees and educated his workers’ children in free schools. He gave shares of the company’s profit and surplus to his employees.
